Radioactive cargo intercepted in Kazan
According to the Federal Customs Service of Russia, a parcel arriving from China with 30 kg of radioactive stone beads was intercepted at the Kazan Postal Customs Checkpoint.
The parcel triggered one of the Yantar Radiation Monitors installed at the checkpoint. The following spectrometric analysis with the MKC-A03 Handheld Radiation Monitor revealed that ionizing radiation level at the parcel surface was 15 times higher than the permissible values, and the beads contained the Th-232 isotope and were a source of beta radiation.
Details are available on the Russian FCS website.
