On guard for radiation safety
For the first eight months of 2025, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia has reported 12 cases of individuals illegally transporting goods with excessive radiation levels (including volcanic sand, ceramic figure, playing cards, and antiques).
Effective detection and identification of radioactive sources exceeding permissible limits and posing a danger to humans has become possible due to operation of integrated nuclear and radioactive materials monitoring systems based on various Yantar Radiation Monitors at all Russian international customs checkpoints, and professionalism of the FCS radiation safety officers. In accordance with the response procedure, after a suspicious object with excessive radiation level is detected, it is subject to identification using the MKC-A03 Handheld Radiation Monitor.
